Crop Tops: Showing some skin the right way!

An old trend with a hot new twist, crop tops are making a comeback this season! Are you ready to try out this style, but not sure how? Maybe you're still feeling a bit shy and not quite ready to take off your winter layers. While they are a bit bold, crop tops can be styled for any comfort level. Here's how!
This style is great for the girl on the go! Its cute and casual without being completely understated. Pair it with a cardigan for chilly mornings and you're good to go!

I know what you're thinking, can I really get away with this? The answer is yes! This Spring, spruce up your drab work wardrobe with a crop top and pencil or midi skirt. Keep it professional with a fun blazer, buttoned or open. In this outfit, you'll be the stylish bread-winner. After hours, take off the jacket and you're ready for cocktails.
Parties are the perfect place to try out this daring trend! You're certain to be an eye-catcher and the talk of the night. For those of us too shy to bare it all, you can always modify the look with a jacket or cardigan!

If you're still having trouble letting go of the layers, the crop top is a perfect way to cut loose and welcome the warm weather in. Let this inspire you the be more bold with your style choices, and as always, make it your own! Rock this with a confident smile and you're sure to be a show-stopper wherever you go!

Happy blogging,

Layla Mays: Emotion

Eyes are the window to the soul.
My very first photo shoot consisted of a hotel stairwell and a camera. The photographer told me we were going to try some really hard emotions and that I should just loosen up and feel it. It sounded so easy, “ but being vulnerable and emotional in front of a complete and total stranger is hard. One year later, I can finally say its easy for me to let loose in front of the camera and really get something great out of it. The biggest tip I have for anyone looking to improve this aspect of their shoots, or just for anyone who is curious how we do it, you must feel whatever emotion you're trying to portray. If you want sad, be sad. If you're happy, be happy. Feel it and be vulnerable; let your inhibitions go. Whatever emotion you're trying to portray, give it all you've got and really get your point across!

Rêver Magazine: All Flowers in Time...

I recently shot with Jesse Koska, a Nashville photographer, for Rêver Magazine, and I am in love with how the photos turned out! Shooting with Jesse is always a blast (this was my third time). He has such great energy behind the camera and really made me feel comfortable and at ease. If I had any advice for photographers, it would be this: make your models feel at home! If you are tense and uptight, your model will have a difficult time connecting with the camera. If you can crack a joke while keeping a shoot on point, you're golden and the photos will be magical.

Interview: Price Stone, photographer

While on my trip in Nashville, I had the opportunity to shoot with Price Stone, a young photographer based out of Nashville. How young am I talking? He's actually still in high school! However, age is truly just a number. Stone is incredibly talented and passionate about his work. Take a look at my interview with him and I also snuck in some of our shots!

Seeking Blogger Bestie!

To all the fashion bloggers, model bloggers, life bloggers, etc. I'm issuing a notice:

I need a blogger bestie!

While this may seem desperate to some, this is actually the perfect opportunity for those too shy to reach out. Here is your chance!

What I'm looking for:
- Someone who has been blogging for over one year on the same blog. I want someone who can teach me what they know and who is dedicated to their blog.
- Someone who would like to collaborate on posts or guest post on Innominate Girl.
- Someone who wants to skype, chat, fb, and possibly meet in person. I want us to be tight, at least online.

Ok, this is starting to sound a little bit desperate...does it make it worse if I say you must love cats?

I'm going to stop there, but I would love for you to comment on this post and link me to your blog, that way I can see if we might be compatible for best friendom! I will check out any blog that comments!

Thank you and I hope to meet you all soon!

Behind the Scenes: the Real Photoshoot

In a series I'll be starting called "Behind the Scenes", I'll walk you through a day in the life of an international model. You'll learn about everything from runways to model apartments, castings and even traveling alone. Today's post, however, is all about photoshoots!

When you watch shows like "America's Next Top Model" or "Make Me a Supermodel" or flip through a magazine, you see beautiful photos of beautiful women in beautiful clothing. You may think that modeling looks glamorous and would be tons of fun. There's hours of pampering with hair and makeup and the wardrobes are immaculate (do I want to wear Chanel, if only for an hour? Yes!). But, what you may not realize is everything that goes on behind the scenes. For those of you who aren't aware, its a lot of work!

"How can it be called 'work'? You get your makeup and hair done for you, wear the top fashions, and pose. Sounds easy enough to me!"

Yes, and no. I'm gonna walk you through my hardest shoot thus far! Are you ready to be enlightened? Well, let's get started.

Booties all year 'round: fashion do or don't?

One thing's for certain: when the weather gets hot, the layers come off, and it always starts with shoes!

But, you know that sad moment when you pick your favorite pair of winter booties up off the floor, place them on the shelf, and say goodbye until next fall? What if you didn't have to? Or maybe you don't put them away, but you never really feel comfortable wearing them, too afraid of feeling out-of-season.

Well, I'm here to tell you that there's not reason to be afraid; you can start wearing your booties all year long! Whether you're boho chic, jeans and t-shirt, or more of a "pretty in pink" kind of girl, there's a way for any style to rock this trend. Check out the photos below to see how to pair them with your favorite summer looks!

Safe travels!

With my boyfriend's birthday coming up, and a month and a half worth of time spent away from him, a trip out to the west coast, or as some would say, the best coast, was inevitable. I got my ticket and counted down the days. Yesterday, it was time to travel.

I started out on what seemed like a normal trip, with myself running late, check-in being incredibly slow, and a mother with two small boys holding up the security line. I rushed to my gate with what I thought was 10 minutes to spare and stood there waiting for boarding. After a couple minutes, I realized that the board said my gate was for a delayed flight out to Houston, not Chicago where I was headed. The "next" flight on the board was mine, late, two hours to be exact. And so ensued my panic.

Nashville Fashion Week 2013!

Nashville Fashion Week, the push that started it all!

This year was Nashville's third annual fashion week and it was nothing short of the splendor it held last year. The headliners included lines like Nonoo, T. Rains, Modern Trousseau, SAND, and many more!

I booked the opening shows for Tuesday and Friday night, so my nights consisted of several clothing, hair, and makeup changes. Needless to say, I was a busy woman and I wouldn't have survived or been ready in time to walk without my dressers. Those girls did so much for me, fastening buttons, zipping up zippers, and tying my shoes.

Shout out to them, Danielle, Zaina, and Nancy, you guys are awesome!

Tuesday night was the opening night, and it was by far my favorite. The venue chosen to kick-off the week was the Pinnacle building in downtown Nashville. From the 22nd floor, I could look out and see the lights all over town. It was such a dazzling sight!

Show at the Symphony

While I was in Nashville, I was also privileged to walk in the Symphony's annual benefit show, featuring Monique Lhuillier's Fall 2013 collection. Her line came straight off the New York Fashion Week runway and into the dressing room of Nashville's Schermerhorn Symphony Center. The collection included a palette of jewel and earth tones mixed with draping, embroidery and fringe.

Cabin fever cure: Nashville road trip

It has been over a month since I returned home from Asia, and I think it suffices to say that there was nothing for me to come back to, as far as my career is concerned. The "fashion" industry in Knoxville consists of small boutiques and department stores and there is just not a whole lot going on. So, traveling to Nashville this past week was a much needed breath of fresh air.

Nashville celebrated its third annual Nashville Fashion Week, April 2-6. I was scouted during a model search at last year's fashion week and was able to walk in it for the Friday and Saturday shows. This year, I walked Tuesday and Friday night for designers such as Kal Reiman, Reddoll by Tatyana Merenyuk, and Plenty by Tracy Reese. On the days I wasn't in a show, I spent my time shooting with photographers Layla Mays, Price Stone, and Jesse Koska. Needless to say, I had a very busy, but enjoyable week. After a month of sitting idle, I was more than ready for this.

Mash-up Monday!
Here's my inspiration for the week. Today I really just wanted to try and get excited about the coming spring weather, and fashion, and write a post that represents my present thoughts and feelings about life. Hopefully looking at these can help us all to end our Mondays on a brighter note!

One year anniversary!

In honor of my one anniversary, I thought I'd recap my first year as a model. It's amazing how much I've developed in a year.
It's crazy to me to think this all began a year ago with Nashville Fashion Week. After winning the model search contest, it was a complete whirlwind of traveling and development. With LA and now Asia under my belt, I feel unstoppable, and the incredible opportunities keep pouring in.
